Action: Bet
ATS: Against The Spread. Betting against the spread means making a wager that will be decided by adding points to one team after the conclusion of the game in order to determine if you win.
Betting Exchange: Another form of online wagering where you and a partner can wager on any event or sport using whatever odds you both decide upon. The winner will pay a commission to the online Sportsbook.
Bettor: Someone who places bets.
Bonus Hunter: Someone who registers an account with the sole intention of obtaining bonuses. He does not intend to be a loyal or regular Player at the Sportsbook but just goes in for what he can get, takes it, and leaves.
Bookmaker: An individual or company that accepts bets against the odds created by oddsmakers.
Buck: A bet size. When betting on the favourite, a buck is considered the amont of money wagered to win $100. When betting on the underdog, it is $100.
Chalk: Betting on Chalk is betting on the favourite.
Circled: A Circled game has a lower maximum bet than other games. A game can be Circled because of an uncertainty, such as inclement weather or an injury to a key Player.
Cover: To cover is to beat the spread.
Dime: A bet to win $1000.
Dog: Also called the ?underdog?, it is the team that is least likely to win against another team in the same game.
Dollar: A bet to win $100.
Early line: The first line posted for a game.
Even money: Wagering a specific amount to win that amount (for e.g. wagering $10 to win $10). Even money means you risk a dollar to win a dollar. It is also called Pick and is written either EV or Pk.
Exotic bets: Proposition bets
Favorite: The team more likely to win.
Final Score: The score of the game when it is concluded.
Final Total: The sum of the two final scores of a game.
Futures: Bets that will be concluded at some point in the future.
Handicap: To handicap is to assign a probability to the likelihood of winning a contest or series of contests. A person who handicaps is a handicapper.
House Edge: Another name for Juice or Vig.
Juice: Juice is another word for House Edge or Vig.
Laying: If the amount of money you are betting is greater than the amount of money you will win, you are said to be laying the odds; meaning you are betting on the favourite.
Line: The line is the spread and terms of a bet. If the terms are standard, e.g. -110, then the line is the spread.
Money line: When you bet the money line, the winner of the game is the winner of the bet.
Nickel: A bet to win $500.
Off: An Off game means that bets are no longer being accepted on that game.
Opening line: The earliest line posted for a given sports event.
Over: Betting on the Over means that you are betting that the total score at the end of the game will exceed the odds posted.

Pick 'em: The same as Even Money. The abbreviation for pick ?em is Pk.
Player: This can mean either a big bettor or someone who places online gaming wagers.
Points/ point spread: Points and point spread are other terms for spread.
Proposition bet: Odds based on an event scheduled to take place. For a detailed explanation, please see our Bet Types page.
Puck line: In hockey, if you bet against the spread, you are betting on the Puck Line.
Push: A tie. Bets are usually refunded in the case of a Push.
Run line: In Baseball if you bet ATS, you are betting on the Run Line.
Side: Betting on one team against the spread.
Sportsbook: Another word for book, a Sportsbook is facility that accepts sports bets on sports competitions etc..
Spread: The number set by a sportsbook to allow betting at 10:11 on each of two teams.
Straight up: Spread betting is so common that you need a way to distinguish between the winner of the game and the winner of the bet. Sometimes it may be the same team in both cases but sometimes not. Winning Straight Up means that you have won the game and not the spread.
Total: Also known as Over/Under, these odds are the total points that the oddsmaker feels will be scored by both teams during a game. For a detailed explanation, please see our Bet Types page.
