Ace:
The best starting pitcher for a team.
At Bat:
The offensive team's turn to bat and score.
Balk:
This is a call by the Umpire against the pitcher because of an illegal move that the pitcher made. The intention of a balk is to catch runners on base off balance. If a balk is called, each runner on a base will advance to the next respective base.
Ball:
This is a call by the Umpire and is a pitch at which the batter does not swing and which does not enter the strike zone.
Base:
A point on the baseball diamond which must be touched by the runner in order to score a run. There are 4 points on the baseball diamond including first base, second base, third base, and home.
Batter:
The player who is in the batter's box.
Batter's Box:
One of 2 areas on the Home Plate where the batter assumes position and takes his turn to bat.
Bottom:
The second half of an inning.
Brushback:
A pitch which comes very close to hitting the batter.
Bunt:
A hit of the ball without swinging the bat. The ball is normally tapped within the infield and is done to surprise the pitcher or advance a runner. A bunt is a legal move in baseball.
Catcher's Box:
The area behind the Home Plate where the catcher must stand until the pitcher delivers a pitch.
Called Game:
A game that is suspended by the Umpire.
Catch:
When a ball that is in flight lands securely in the hand or glove of a fielder.
Catcher:
The Player who receives the pitch from the Pitcher. The catcher must be situated behind Home Base.
Change Up:
A slow pitch thrown in order to disrupt the batter's timing.
Cheese:
A good fast ball.
Circus Catch:
A fantastic catch made by a fielder.
Complete Game:
When the starting Pitcher pitches an entire game. This adds to his overall statistics.
